Leisure World resident named to California Senior Legislature

The Orange County Older Adult Advisory Commission elected Mariann Klinger of Mutual 9 as an assemblywoman to the California Senior Legislature at its August general meeting in Santa Ana.

Klinger, a 17-year resident of Leisure World, served for 10 years with the community’s Security Department and seven years on the Seal Beach Planning Commission. Much of her government experience stems from her work as a reporter and editor on newspapers in Monterey County. While working, she covered city, county and state governments, as well as school boards in the area. During that time, she earned a master’s in political science from San Jose State University. She taught social studies and government at Salinas Union High School District and Monterey Peninsula College.

The California Senior Legislature (CSL) is a volunteer organization established to represent the interests of older adults in California by proposing legislation at state and federal levels. The CSL, founded in 1980, aims to raise awareness among legislators about senior issues, particularly during the budget revision period.

Since its inception the CSL has sponsored more than 200 laws addressing issues such as healthcare, financial abuse and housing for seniors.
