At the August LW Democratic Club membership meeting, Democratic State Senate candidate Chris Duncan presented his legislative vision and addressed key issues facing local constituents. Duncan answered questions from attendees and highlighted upcoming volunteer opportunities, including local canvassing efforts to support his campaign. The LW Democratic club holds membership meetings on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 1:30 p.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 2.

As the club gears up for the election in November, the Hospitality Booth will be open every Tuesday in September and every Tuesday and Thursday in October, from 10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Club members will be there to help answer questions, register to vote, update address, or change party affiliation. Club members plan to hit the pavement canvassing for the upcoming election. The club plans for this year to be its biggest, most energized, and most effective door-to-door drive ever.

The kick off canvassing meeting will be on Sept. 9, when volunteers will receive instructions and collect the paperwork necessary to get started. The two sessions will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-2:30 p.m. in Clubhouse 3. Those who are looking for a fun, meaningful way to make a difference, are encouraged to volunteer to canvass. LW Democratic residents and those who have registered as no party preference will be receiving a postcard this year instead of the usual letter with candidate, proposition and voter information.

The Voter Education series will not meet in September, but the group will continue postcarding. Bender has 300 postcards and addresses for Texas. People can email beverleybender@ gmail.com or call 951-334-9730 and to receive the cards and addresses that they can write at their leisure. The cards will not be mailed until the end of September.

Members are encouraged to sign up for the club’s newsletter by Gail Winkles. She outlines propositions in an easy, understandable manner along with reference links. For more information, contact Winkles at swageg8@gmail.com.
