Playing pickleball offers seniors an array of benefi ts
Combining elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, pickleball is easy to learn, fun to play, and offers numerous health and social benefits for seniors.
The sport provides a lowimpact form of exercise that improves cardiovascular health, strength and flexibility. The game’s smaller court and lighter paddles reduce stress on joints, making it suitable for those with arthritis or mobility issues. Regular play can help maintain healthy weight, boost endurance and keep muscles active.
Pickleball is also good for the mind. Strategy and quick decision-making stimulate cognitive function and help keep the brain sharp. Physical activity also releases endorphins, which can reduce stress and improve mood, lowering the risk of depression and anxiety. The sunshine is an excellent way to boost vitamin D levels.
Another benefit of pickleball is its social aspect. The sport encourages teamwork, communication and camaraderie, providing opportunities for residents to make new friends, stay connected and combat feelings of loneliness. The Pickleball Club further encourages social aspects with its Friday evening “Dink and Dine” members potluck gatherings.
The courts, located behind Clubhouse 2, are open daily for residents from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. The club offers free instruction Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m., with paddles and balls provided. Wear sturdy court shoes for play.
