LW Men’s Golf League
Nine golfers of the Leisure World men’s golf league met at the Willowick Golf Course in Santa Ana on June 15.
It was lovely morning with cool temps but full sun. The greens and fairways were very green, and the course was undergoing some improvements to improve the roughness of the fairways.
Willowick is a 6,000-yard, par 71 course that has no water hazards or elevation changes. Length, challenging rough and large sand traps make the course difficult.
Good weather and reasonable course conditions allowed five of the nine scores to be at or under net par. There were two birdies—one each by Clay Fisher and Jim Goltra.
Closest to the pin on the 150-yard, par 3 fourth hole was Fisher, on the 140-yard 12th hole was Jae Choi. Goltra had fewest putts for the A flight, and Tom Ross had fewest in the B.
A flight winners: Goltra, first place; Fisher second; Gary Stivers, third; Sam Choi, fourth; Jae Choi, fifth; and Bruno Santillo, sixth.
B flight winners: Ross, first place; Randy Massaor, second; Won Park, third.
The golf league plays every Monday at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. These courses are always quite full, so advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.
There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Rewards are given for low net in each flight, birdies, closest to the pin on two par threes, and for the lowest number of putts in each flight. Holes-in-one and eagles (2 under par), although infrequent, are generously rewarded.
Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975.
