Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Fridays from 9-10 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. For support on a weight-loss journey, women are welcome to stop by at 8:15 to weigh in and complete the registration paperwork.

On June 12, members learned that the club lost 23 pounds.

President Judy Chambers lost 5.5 pounds and was named the biggest loser of the week. Chambers said she ate less and exercised more. Shirley LaBrecque received a certificate of achievement for reaching a bachelors degree of goal weight.

Linda Rich gave a presentation on weight loss not being linear— one week people can feel motivated, and the next week the scale stalls and they want to quit. Rich said that the plateau isn’t a failure but a part of the process, and people need time to adjust to build new habits. She added that oftentimes stress and lack of sleep may lead to water retention and weight gain. “Stay consistent and trust the process. People who succeeded long-term are not those who never struggled, but those who never quit,” said Rich.

The weekly food for thought was “We didn’t stop exercising because we grew older, we grew older because we stopped exercising.”
