Lions vision screening serves more than 180 Leisure World residents
Leisure World residents turned out in impressive numbers on May 30 for a free community vision screening event, where more than 180 neighbors received no cost eye evaluations and free repurposed prescription glasses. The clinic ran from 9 a.m.-l p.m., providing steady service throughout the day.
Hosted in partnership with California Lions Friends in Sight (CLFIS) and supported by local Lions Club volunteers, the event brought licensed optometrists, trained screeners, and dozens of community helpers together with one shared purpose: ensuring that every resident who needed vision support could receive it without cost or barriers.
Residents were welcomed for visual acuity testing, refraction, and basic eye health checks. After screening, many were matched with gently used, professionally cleaned, and catalogedprescription eyeglasses—giving them clearer vision on the spot.
Organizers noted that the strong turnout reflects both the need for accessible vision care and the community spirit that defines Leisure World. “This is what service looks like—neighbors helping neighbors,” one volunteer said while assisting residents through the screening stations.
The Lions expressed gratitude to the optometrists who donated their time, the volunteers who kept the clinic running smoothly, and the residents who participated and helped spread the word.
Events like this, they emphasized, are part of an ongoing commitment to support wellness, independence, and quality of life for all Leisure World residents.
With the success of this year’s clinic, planning is already underway for future screenings to ensure continued access to essential vision care.
