Hui O Hula: Hawaiian Dance Club
After five weeks away, Hui O Hula instructor Jojo Weingart has returned home to Leisure World and is happy to be back with her Hui O Hula ‘ohana, which means family in Hawaiian.
While Weingart was away, hula class continued twice a week with the help of Susan Cucci and Yo Kishi. The club wishes a heartfelt mahalo goes to Kishi for teaching hula basics at the beginning of each class. She and Cucci welcomed new students, encouraged returning dancers and made sure everyone continued to practice. Thanks also goes to Lori “Lolo” Chamberlin for writing the club’s articles during Weingart’s absence. Mahalo also to dancer Keiko Kawamoto for helping others with their dancing and sharing her hula knowledge.
Lessons are given twice a week on Tuesday and Thursdays at 1 p.m. Tuesday’s class meets upstairs in Clubhouse 6, and Thursday’s class meets in the conference room next to the Leisure World pharmacy. Students can dance standing or seated. Newcomers are always welcome. For more class information, call or text 562-338-1502.
