Seniors for Peace will meet today, June 4, at 2 p.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 1, with guest speaker Stephanie Wade. She will talk about her efforts to start a Leisure World Rapid Response Network, a community- led group that documents and responds to ICE raids and detentions and offers support to affected families.

A decentralized movement of independent Rapid Response Networks has sprung up all over the country. Each organizes independently and provides aid that makes sense for their community, but these services often include neighbor-to-neighbor warnings of immigration enforcement operations, observing/documenting raids, providing food and/or transportation to families who have been driven underground, and providing many other aid/ services as needed.

Wade is a former Marine Corps infantry officer, environmental activist, board member of the national pro-trans PAC, and chair of the Lavender Democrats. She’s been active with many other progressive organizations, as well.
