Tournament Poker Club will play May 9 in CH 6
Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in can play with the Tournament Poker Club on Saturday, May 9, in Clubhouse 6. Regular tournaments are held on the first three Saturdays of every month and start at 10 a.m. with registration. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.
On April 18, the club had a great turnout for the last regular tournament of April. Seventytwo players made for exciting play and a great game. High hand winners were Brent Covington (J-J-J-J-9), Jae Jun (1010-10-10-K) and Doug Wolfe (5-5-5-5-A). Lonnie Ton won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 3-10.
As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Shelly Yu, first place; Earick Ward, second; Kurt Bourhenne, third; Marvin Rolnick, fourth; Gary Fiorelli, fifth; Jae Jun, sixth; Guta Basner, seventh; Frank Sablan, eighth; and Bob Konier, ninth.
Play continued at the final table until Yu and Ward were heads up. In the final hand of the match, Yu was holding 7 hearts and 6 clubs, while Ward had Q clubs and 4 hearts. The flop came A clubs, K hearts and 7 clubs, giving both players three clubs to the flush, Yu a pair of sevens and Ward a possible straight. Ward went all in after the flop and was called by Yu. The turn was a 3 hearts, which was no help to either player. The river card was a 5 spades, which didn’t improve Ward’s hand, so Yu won the hand and the tournament with her pair of sevens.
Yu has lived in Leisure World for six years and been a member of the club for five years. This was her fourth final table win. She works as a special education teacher and plays poker in several groups. She can also be found at the pickleball courts here in Leisure World.
