LW Baptist Church
LW Baptist Church meets for worship on Sundays at 10 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 1.
On Sunday, May 3, the message from Pastor Rolland Coburn will be about Christian faith. The object of the Christian’s faith is Scripture, God’s word. The Bible says God gave Abraham the Gospel promise, and “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness,” Romans 4:3.
The Psalms say, “Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Jesus, in prayer to the father for his disciples, said, “I manifested Thy name to the men whom Thou gave me out of the world;Thine they were, and Thou gave them to me, and they have kept Thy word.”
Early in church history, the Apostle Paul warned the new believers of Roman Galatia (now part of modern Turkey) not to fall for a different gospel, which would be no gospel at all, no matter who preached it, not even if it were by “an angel from heaven.”
Newly introduced to the gospel in the south Macedonian city Berea (modern Verria) in the New Testament, the Jewish community there showed their good faith by verifying the message to be in accord with the rest of the Holy Scriptures, as Moses urged in Deuteronomy: “You shall follow the Lord your God and fear him; and you shall keep his commandments, listen to his voice, serve him and cling to him.”
Jesus similarly pointed to the evidence of genuine faith, saying, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish.”
