Democratic Club

During the April 22 membership meeting, the Democratic Club hosted a packed house featuring comprehensive presentations from judicial candidates Judge Ami Sheth Sagel and Robert Mestman. While the candidates are running in separate districts, they both delivered presentations outlining a polished and structured plan for their respective benches. Their remarks included a comprehensive outline of their backgrounds and what led them to seek a judicial seat. The capacity crowd reflected strong community interest in the judicial elections and the future of the California Superior Court, Orange County.
The meeting highlighted the candidates’ readiness to serve and provided members with a clear understanding of their professional philosophies and visions for the court system. Both candidates also engaged directly with the audience, taking questions from members throughout the event. May 1, often called “May Day” is a global tradition of labor strikes and demonstrations rooted in the 1886 Haymarket Affair in Chicago. This year for May 1, a “May Day Strong” coalition, which includes groups like National Education Association and Higher Education Labor United, are organizing a nationwide call for “No Work, No School, No Shopping.”
In solidarity with this movement for worker rights and public investment, the Democratic Club will be demonstrating at the LW Globe from 2-3 p.m. Beyond the demonstration, the club encourages everyone to stay put, skip shopping and reschedule appointments in support of this cause. All members are encouraged to join at the LW Globe to stand together for labor and community strength.
