The America First Republican Club will hold a special “Meet the Candidates” event open to all Leisure World residents on Saturday, May 2, in Clubhouse 3, Room 2 at 1 p.m. All are welcome to come and meet Tony Strickland current state senator for the 36th District and Michael Gates, candidate for California attorney general. Note that is not the club’s usual meeting day or time.

Club volunteers have wrapped up efforts distributing the LW Republican Voter Guide. Election Day is not until June 2 but ballots will be mailed out the first week of May. The guide has bright, red, white and blue panels and is designed to hang on a doorknob so it can be kept handy as a reference until voting with the mail-in ballot or carried to the polls when voting in person.

Starting Friday, May 1, the Club’s hospitality information booth will be outside of Clubhouse 6 from 9-11 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. People can pick up a voter guide at the booth. With campaign season in full swing, the membership is reminded of the importance of civility in discourse with others who disagree. Residents need to abide by the Leisure World Code of Conduct and act in a civil, respectful manner and any threatening behavior will be reported to GRF Security.

Hosting the “Meet the Candidates” events, distributing the LW Republican Voter Guide, and having a hospitality information booth outside of Clubhouse 6 during election season are just some of the ways the club seeks to fulfill its mission to educate, engage, and activate members in their duty as citizens to vote and elect like-minded candidates. The club will meet Wednesday, May 13, in Clubhouse 3, Room 2. The social time is at 4:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 5 and ending promptly at 6.
