Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in can play with the Tournament Poker Club on Saturday, May 2. Regular tournaments are held on the first three Saturdays of every month and start at 10 a.m. with registration. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.

For people interested in poker lessons, a new class will begin in July. Contact Debbie Barner at 325-721-0687 for more details.

The club had 72 players on April 11 ready to play. High hand winners were Cleo Looney (4-8 heart flush), Ming Lan (1-5 spade flush) and K.C. Lee (7-77-7-K). Lee Pfeifer won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 9-3.

As the winners of their original table, the final table players were Brent Covington, first place; Bill Clawson, second; Shelly Yu, third; Lonnie Ton, fourth; George Casto, fifth; K.C. Lee, sixth; Robert Stefan, seventh; Guta Basner, eighth; and Bill Zurn, ninth. Play continued at the final table until Covington and Clawson were head’s up. In the final hand, Covington was holding a pair of 8s and Clawson had Ace and 10 clubs. Before the flop, Clawson went all-in and was called by Covington. The flop came Queen and 5 diamonds-7 hearts, which didn’t help either player. The turn was a 3 hearts, which was also no help. The river was an 8 diamonds, giving Covington three of a kind and the win.

Covington has lived in Leisure World for 10 years and been a member of the Poker C lub for five years. This was his seventh final table win. Besides playing in several poker groups, he plays golf and does weightlifting. He is also interested in computer programming.
