Community Church

Community Church is observing the season of Easter during the seven Sundays of the Easter tradition, which started Easter Sunday, April 5.

This Sunday, April 12, the theme is water. This week’s theme comes from Jewish siblings, the Mikvah (gathering of waters). It personifies the womb, grave and consequently, rebirth. It is regarded as an unadulterated avenue of connection with God; and for that reason, it is a place where hope is reawakened and strengthened.

Scripture will look at the sending of the disciples and the receiving of the Holy Spirit, which is celebrated by the current Christian church weeks from now to Pentecost, May 24. It is a time when believers are less focused on the tongues of fire and instead looking back on Jesus breathing the Holy Spirit into his disciples and transforming them from followers to those who are sent.

Water becomes a better image than fire when people see Jesus breathing the Spirit into his followers. This week’s message theme is “sent,” because it wasn’t just the first followers who were sent out to bring the love of God into the world; it is current Christians as well. Believers are called to turn this world, from its love of kings, and offer instead the “kin-dom” way of Jesus, a way of community.

Those who are looking for a message of encouragement are welcome to join the congregation of Community Church on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. for a time of community in which no one is a stranger. No prior church experience is required. All are welcome who are welcoming to all. The church is located near the St. Andrews Gate at 14000 Church place.
