GOLDEN AGE FOUNDATION EVENTS

Over 300 federal and California state tax returns have been e-filed for Leisure World residents so far this year with the help of the Golden Age Foundation (GAF) and AARP.

The GAF has added two additional days March 26 and April 9 for appointments.

IRS-certified volunteers will prepare and e-file tax returns for full-year California residents. Appointments are available every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m.-noon. Sign-ins and verification of forms will be held in Clubhouse 3 Lobby.

Appointments are required. People can call 562-596-1987 and leave their full name and telephone number. A volunteer will return the call to schedule an appointment.

The intake/interview sheet required for the appointment can be picked up at the LW Library and should be completed prior to the appointment. Note that individuals with rental property or a net loss from self employment are out-of-scope.

••• GAF Board Meeting March 25 The GAF board will meet on Wednesday, March 25, at 2 p.m. in Building 5, Conference Room B.

All members of the GAF are welcome to observe the meeting and catch up on the latest news and upcoming events for the GAF.

The GAF Board meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month, unless otherwise noted.

••• Shredding service serves over 380 vehicles The GAF served nearly 400 vehicles at its recent drive through shredding service on March 10. Twelve volunteers worked together to efficiently handle hundreds of bags documents from the flow of traffic over two hours.

Shredding truck driver Manny Lopez reported that the GAF collected 56 barrels of documents from 382 vehicles. In the last event, the group collected 43 barrels.

The GAF thanks those who generously donated after attending the event. Each donation helps raise the funds to continue to provide this program and others for free to the community.

This service is only for residents, it is not for businesses.

The GAF thanks volunteers Harry Varnas, Charlie Dunn, Fara McCartney, Geneva Potepan, Dave Forney, Linda Johnson, Carol Schubeck, Kathy Gupton, Tonette and Anna Derby for their services.
