Fun With Fashion Club Fun With Fashion Club

The Fun With Fashion Club will meet April 13 at 6 p.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, to discuss swim suits, lingerie and more.

On March 9, the club met to discuss travel wardrobes, packing ideas and spring decluttering. Liliane Roy Condone showed the contents of her stylish carry-on tote bag. She packs mostly lightweight wool items, and explained the wonderful properties of wool for travel. She travels light, preferring to purchase needed items at her destination.

Fashion stylist Theresa Metzler rolled in her well-packed, hardcase carry-on bag and discussed the Sudoku method of packing, but admitted she “cheats” in favor of fashion over utility, holding up her leopard high heels. Her chock-full travel backpack fits under her airplane seat. Its contents could take her from hiking to a dressy evening. Her rain jacket folded into its own zipper pocket. Brenda Thomason also had an extensive check list that her husband, Jim, uses. The list was a big hit.

The Fun with Fashion Club is more than about clothes; it is about feeling good in one’s body. That means caring for the spirit, body and clothing. The spiritual topic was spring cleaning, a time for down-with-the-storm-windows and up with the screens; into the attic with the itchy woolens and out with the light cotton dresses. Camille Dull suggested taking spring cleaning inward and perhaps cleaning out a habit members have outgrown or no longer want, and finding a virtue to replace it. On the table were Benjamin Franklin’s “13 Virtues,” which included: temperance, eat not to dullness, drink not to elevation. Others included silence, order, resolution, frugality, industry, sincerity, justice, moderation, cleanliness, tranquility, chastity and humility.
