CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

by Edward Jablonski

GRF Operations Committee Chairman

The GRF Pedestrian and Driving Safety Work Study Team held its first resident meeting Feb 23.

Operations Committee members in attendance included Edward Jablonski, Jeff Mulqueen, James Farr and Tim Kearns. Three of the 13 safety work study volunteers, Dave LaCascia, Al Clark and Brian Fitzgerald, participated in this initial meeting and contributed valuable input.

The group discussed concerns related to speeding, stop signs and crosswalks. The mission of the Work Study Team is to engage the community in understanding resident needs, expectations and concerns regarding pedestrian and driving safety within Leisure World.

The goal is to develop wellconsidered proposals for improvement. With data collected by resident volunteers identifying problematic areas, a comprehensive master plan will be developed in coordination with GRF staff and City of Seal Beach officials.

The master plan will conform to the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CA MUTCD), ensuring that all recommendations meet established safety standards.

The Work Study Team continues to seek volunteers to assist in collecting data on areas of concern. Meaningful progress depends on broader community involvement. Resident input is essential to accurately identify problem areas and build wellsupported, effective recommendations.

The next meeting will be held on April 17, at 1 p.m. in Conference Room A. To join the Work Study team and help share and evaluate safety concerns, contact James Farr at jfarr@lwsb. com. Your voice matters. Your participation can help make Leisure World a safer place for everyone.
