The Gospel lesson is from John 4:5-42. Jesus declares himself the water of life to the Samaritan woman at the well. Believers need to drink from this water so that they may become “a spring of water welling up to eternal life” (John 4:14). Believers are baptized by water (one of the most destructive and most necessary things on earth) into the life, death, and resurrection of the Christ.
