Redeemer Lutheran and St. Theodore
On Sunday, March 1, the congregations of Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate the second Sunday of Lent. Rev. Murray Finck will preside over the 10:30 a.m. holy Communion service at 13564 St. Andrews Drive.
People can join after service for coffee, tea, cookies and snacks in the Fellowship Hall.
People are invited to join the Lenten reflection study and supper on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The group will meet Feb. 25, and March 4, 11, 18 and 25. People are asked to sign up on the sheet in the entryway so the church can have a head count to plan the meal.
The bazaar committee has decided to have twice-a-month crafting get-togethers on the first and third Mondays at 10 a.m. The next meeting will be March 2. This will allow the congregation to better prepare for the spring and fall bazaars. All crafters are welcome.
The Gospel lesson is from John 3:1-17. Nicodemus comes at night, in his confusion and questioning, to Jesus. Unlike many of his own friends, he comes not to trick Jesus into saying something that could bring the wrath of the Romans, but to learn from Jesus. While this Gospel selection has one of the most quoted verses in the Bible: John 3:16, the verse afterward says, “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world might be saved through him.”
People do not have to wait until they are perfect to come to the Lord. Jesus meets people where they are.
