Tournament Poker Club to play Saturday, Feb. 21
Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in should make plans to play on Saturday, Feb. 21. Regular tournaments are held on the first three Saturdays of every month and start at 10 a.m. with registration. Cards are in the air at 10:30. Note that there is a no late seating policy for tournament play. Tournaments are at seating capacity. Those who arrive late have a good chance of not being able to play.
After a great start to the new year, the club started Feb. 7 with a full house. High hand winners were Bruce Bowles (9-9-9-9-4), John Markovitch (6-6-6-6-Q), and Kathy Elliot (4-4-4-4-10). Fiona Wolfe also won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 7-2.
As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Lee Pfeifer, first place; Patricia Hallock, second; Kurt Bourhenne, third; Barry Brideau, fourth; Lem Hall, fifth; Ray Lim, sixth; Doug Wolfe, seventh; and Harry Sera, eighth.
Play continued at the final table until Pfeifer and Hallock were head’s up. In the final hand of the match, Pfeifer was holding King diamonds and 10 clubs, while Hallock had A and 9 clubs. The flop came King clubs, 3 clubs, Jack hearts, giving Pfeifer top pair and Hallock a flush draw with four clubs. Pfeifer went all in and was called by Hallock. The turn was a 2 hearts, which was no help to either player, but the river was a King spades, giving Pfeifer three Kings and the win.
Pfeifer has lived in Leisure World for 15 years and been a member of the Poker Club for 13 years. This was her 14th final table win. In addition to tournament poker, Pfeifer enjoys playing cribbage and bocce ball here in Leisure World. She is also a competitive runner.
The club congratulates all the winners.
