LW Men’s Golf League
A bright, cool morning greeted 13 golfers of the LW Men’s Golf League as they teed off at 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 10 at the 5,600-yard par 71 Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach. Temps rose throughout the round with most warm coverings removed towards the end of the round. The fairways were still recovering from the heavy rains last month, but tees and greens were in great shape.
The players began the round with little wind, a clear sky and wet greens and fairways after night-time watering. With some difficult pin positions, it was expected that scores would be low and the golfers didn’t disappoint. Six of the 13 players shot net at or under par with several very low scores. There were seven birdies—two by Clay Fisher and one each by Sam Choi, Jim Goltra, Tom Ross, Kyle Van and Bruno Santillo.
Closest to the pin on the 140-yard par 3 seventh hole was Fisher, and Won Park was closest on the 150-yard 16th hole. Ross and Bob Munn had fewest putts for the B flight, and Gary Stivers had fewest in the A.
Net score equals gross minus handicap.
A flight winners: Fisher, 10 under 61, first place; Goltra, 1 under 70, second; Van, even par 71, third; Sam Choi, fourth; Dave LaCascia, fifth; Stivers and Lankford, sixth.
B flight winners: Tom Ross. 4 under 67, first place; Santillo, 3 under 68, second; Park, 1 under 70, third; Munn, fourth; Mike Jimenez and Randy Massaro, sixth.
The league plays every Monday at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. Advance reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.
There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Rewards are given for low net in each flight, birdies, closest to the pin on two par threes, and for the lowest number of putts in each flight. Holes-in-one and eagles (two under par) are generously rewarded.
Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975.
