LW Men’s Golf Club
It is time for LW Men’s Golf Club members and those who want to join the club to pay dues of $15 for the upcoming 2026 season. Players must be a Men’s Club member to participate in tournament payouts. Membership Chairman Walter Kim (562-999-2565) will collect at tournaments and at the general meeting on March 4.
A cloudy and cool morning greeted 48 players on Feb. 11. The golfers teed off starting at 7:30 a.m. at the 1,680-yard par 54 Turtle Lake Golf Club. Each man competed for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot radius rewarded), and two closest to the pin challenges.
Moderate rain overnight left the course wet and muddy in places. The slight wind was just enough to make it feel 10 degrees cooler and affect the flight of the golf ball. Areas in front of most of the elevated greens remained wet throughout the round, with some fairways a bit soggy. Later in the morning golfers had more wind but slightly drier conditions.
The dampness and cool weather seemed to bother the golfers as only 21 of the 48 men scored net at or under par. There were 44 birdies and eight circle holes compared to 67 and 12 at the last tournament. Closest to the pin on holes No. 2 and 11 was Seon Kim Seon. Average net score for the round was 2 plus strokes over par at 56.2—three strokes higher than the last tournament.
Low net score for the round was Jun Um at 6 under 48, followed by six golfers at 51. Seon Kim had gross score for the round at 3 under 51, followed by Thomas Kim at 2 under 52.
A flight winners (handicaps of 0-6): Seon Kim and Thomas Kim, first place; Tournament Director Alan Sewell, second; Pat Paternoster and Ralph Koizumi, third; Kevin Childress, fourth.
B flight winners (handicaps of 7-12): Jun Um, first place; Seung Lee, second; Joon Sup Yoon and Tom Ebert, third; Rod Osgood and Rolando Ramirez, fourth; Won H. Park, fifth.
C flight winners (handicaps of 13-18): Mark Tal and Kevin Lindstedt, first place; Steve Kang, Mike Fennessy and Dave Winn, second; James Choi, third.
The next men’s tournament is on Feb. 25. Those scheduled or who plan to play in any tournament and cannot should contact Scott Tuchfarber at 909-684-0426, or Dave LaCascia at 801674-5975 as soon as possible. Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to scheduled tee time and be ready to play.
With golfers taking responsibility for fixing their divots and ball marks fairways, tees and greens are looking better and better. The club thanks everyone for seeding the tees as well as raking the sand traps.
