GOLDEN AGE FOUNDATION EVENTS

The Ralphs Community Contribution Program is sponsored by its parent Kroger Grocery Stores and is an easy way for Leisure World residents to raise money for the Golden Age Foundation (GAF).

GAF volunteers meet in the Clubhouse 6 Hospitality Center on the third Wednesday from 9-11 a.m. to help residents sign up for the program in person. On Jan. 21, the GAF board assisted 10 residents.

The GAF has fundraised through the Ralphs Community Rewards Program for over 14 years, and has signed up over 457 shoppers, which has raised over $6,000 a year. It is currently the only fundraising project for the GAF.

To participate, people must already have an account with Ralphs. Once linked to a Ralphs Rewards card, every time a resident shops at a Ralphs grocery store, the GAF will receive a donation at no extra cost, to the shopper.

The GAF will host another in-person sign up for the program on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

The process lasts about 5-10 minutes to complete. People must bring a Ralphs membership card or number, email and a cell phone to receive a code and complete verification.

••• File Income Taxes Now IRS-certified volunteers will prepare and e-file tax returns for full-year California residents. This AARP program is sponsored by the GAF and has appointments available every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m.-noon. Sign-in and verification of forms will be held in Clubhouse 3 Lobby.

Appointments are required. People can call 562-596-1987 and leave their full name and telephone number. A volunteer will return the call to schedule an appointment.

The intake/interview sheet required for the appointment can be picked up at the LW Library and should be completed prior to the appointment. Note that individuals with rental property or a net loss from selfemployment are out-of-scope for this program.

••• Salvation Army Donation Event Feb. 21 The GAF will host the Salvation Army donation event on Saturday, Feb. 21, in the Amphitheater parking lot from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Note that the event will be held on the third Saturday this month, instead of the event’s usual second Saturday.

The donation program brings Salvation Army trucks into Leisure World every other month, providing a convenient and cost-effective way for residents to donate unwanted items.

In addition to giving residents a convenient venue to drop off donations, the program also saves shareholders money since it cuts down on expensive haul-away costs for cast-offs that were previously disposed of at the 1.8-Acre site.

The collection bags were put out two weeks before the collection date. The Salvation Army Donation bags are available now in Clubhouses 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6, and the Library.

The Salvation Army accepts donations of clean, gently used household items including clothing, bedding, kitchenware, small appliances and electronics, toys, sporting goods, books, art, home decor and small-tomedium furniture.

For more information on donating, contact Geneva Potepan at 951-675-4271 or 562301-5339, or email mom4rascal@ aol.com.

The GAF will hold a donation event for the Salvation Army on Feb. 21 in the Amphitheater parking lot.
