LW Cares Board to meet today
The LW Cares Fund sponsored a showing of the movie “It’s Basic” on Feb. 5 in Clubhouse 4. An enthusiastic crowd of residents viewed the one-hour documentary on the power of cash to transform the lives of those struggling with poverty.
“It’s Basic” looks at several pilot programs launched in the U.S. that test the effects of giving everyday people an extra $500 to $1,000 monthly, with no strings attached. Produced by Mayors for a Guaranteed Income Founder Michael Tubbs, the film explores the power of cash, the importance of dignity, and the ongoing work of providing an income floor through the eyes of guaranteed income recipients who have witnessed firsthand the life-altering effects of financial stability. Their real-life challenges of trying to get by on a daily basis are at the heart of the film. It also highlights the pivotal role of local leadership in creating a more just and equitable society.
After the showing, the people were invited to share their impressions.
The Leisure World Cares Fund is applying the “It’s Basic” idea within Leisure World to provide a $200 subsidy to residents on low fixed incomes to help pay their HOA carrying charges. To apply or donate to the Leisure World Cares Fund, visit www.lwcaresfund. org or call 562-262-8280.
