Hui O Hula will perform during community center lunch
Hui O Hula, Leisure World’s Hawaiian dance club, welcomes anyone curious about the art of hula. Free hula lessons are offered twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m. Tuesday’s class meets upstairs at Clubhouse 6; Thursday’s class is held in the conference room next to the Medcare Medical Pharmacy. For class and performance information, call or text 562-338-1502.
Hula is more than dance; it is a storytelling art form. Before Hawaiians had a written language, history, folklore, and values were passed down through chant and movement. Every gesture has meaning, and every dance tells a story.
On Friday, Feb. 13, Hui O Dancers will share that tradition at the North Seal Beach Community Center in a Valentine’sthemed performance.
The performance coincides with the Seal Beach Senior Lunch Program, a popular dine-in program held Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.-noon, at 3333 St. Cloud Drive. Lunch is provided by Meals on Wheels Orange County for adults aged 60 and older, with a suggested donation of $3. Reservations are required in advance.
For more information on lunch, contact Seal Baech Senior Services at 562-431-2527, ext. 1307.
