Dr. Craig Stark will speak to the Sunshine Club about the early signs of dementia on Friday, Feb. 6 in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, at 10 a.m.

Stark is a professor of neurobiology and behavior at the UC Irvine (UCI). He serves as the director of UCI’s Researchdedicated MRI facility and leads the Biomarker Core in their Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. Research in his lab focuses on how the brain learns new information and how this is impacted by aging and dementia.

Particular attention is paid to how people can now detect dementia early by combining novel at-home memory tests with other low-cost, readily-available measures. Recent work in Stark’s lab has shown how even older adults can leverage the effects of “environmental enrichment” to improve their memory.

All residents are welcome. The Sunshine Club requires no membership fees, but donations are welcome. Refreshments will be served.

People should arrive promptly. Those who are late should quietly use the backdoor so as not to disturb the presentation.

Liza Lagasa from FALCK Emergency Services will talk about mobility aids on Friday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 2.
