LW Baptist Church
Leisure World Baptist Church meets for worship on Sundays in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, at 10 a.m.
This week, worship draws assurance from Jesus’ name Emmanuel meaning “God With Us.” The Lord’s presence with his people is a theme of both the Old Testament and the New Testament. Moses led God’s people Israel into Canaan, the land of their forebears Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, from the East side of the Jordan River, the region that is now the modern country of Jordan.
The Lord tells Moses to reassure Israel of God’s presence with them, of victory over fear, of their ultimate inheritance, and of God’s wonder working power.
Similarly, during the Lord’s earthly ministry, he carried the kingdom of God’s message to the other side of the Jordan, and the gospel promise of victory over fear, of ultimate inheritance and of God’s power.
Large crowds gathered to him from the decapolis, the 10 cities, because of the testimony of a man Jesus delivered from demonic fears. Physically disabled persons were brought to Jesus and he healed them all. It was a foretaste of the biblical promise to wipe away every tear from people’s eyes and that there will no longer be death or mourning or crying or pain because he who sits on the throne will make all things new.
