Those who arrive late may be turned away.

Poker lessons will resume in February. Those interested in learning the basics of Texas Hold ‘Em can call Debbie Barner at 325-721-0687 for more information. Those who have contacted her earlier should call again.

At the tournament on Jan. 17, 68 players were ready to play on a warm and sunny day. The high hand winners were John Burns (A-A-A-A-10) and Cleo Looney (A-A-A-A-8), Maryanne Conte and Joyce Smith, who both had the same hand of A-A-A-K-K. Guta Basner won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 2-8.

As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Jess Pringle, first place; K.C. Lee, second; Lee Pfeifer, third; Anne Wilkerson, fourth; Nancy Jordan, fifth; Doug Wolfe, sixth; Roy Mittlestadt, seventh; Kurt Bourhenne, eighth; and Harold Morehead, ninth. Play continued at the final table until Pringle and Lee were head’s up. In the final hand of the match, Pringle was holding King of spades and 6 diamonds. Lee had Q-8 of diamonds. Pringle went all in before the flop and was called by Lee. The flop cards were: Jack of diamonds, 9 of spades, 4 of diamonds, giving Lee a possible diamond flush. The turn was a 3 of clubs, no help to either player. The river was a Jack of spades, which gave both players a pair of Jacks; but Pringle won the match with a King kicker.

Pringle has lived in Leisure World for three years and has been a member of the poker club for just one day. This was his first final table win. Pringle works from home for an IT company. He is learning to play piano, enjoys comic books, and both he and his wife are members of the Rainbow Club.
