A few weeks of play into the winter shuffleboard season, the Shuffleboard Club captains of each team are getting used to the players on their teams and vice versa. The captains’ roles are essential and multi-faceted. Some of their tasks include handing out league lists at the start of the season, reminding players each week if they are visitors or hosts that week, finding substitutes if a player is out and can’t find a replacement themselves, determining who plays against which team, keeping statistics on player progress, listing names on the score boards and submitting wins/losses and allgame winners each week. They come early and leave late and make sure all is in order before the building is shut down and readied for practice or another league team playing a different day of the week. They demonstrate sportsmanship, team support and unfailing assistance to both their own players and their fellow captains. The club is indebted to them for stepping forward to take on this critical leadership role.
