Guys and Gals Golf Tournament
An overcast and cool morning greeted 54 golfers at 7:30 a.m. at the 1,680-yard par 54 Turtle Lake Golf Course for the Guys and Gals Golf Tournament on Jan. 21. The sun never appeared, and temps remained in the upper 50s throughout the round. The entire course was wet from the dampness and watering.
Twenty-seven teams of one man and one woman teed off. Each team competed for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot radius rewarded), and two closest to the pin challenges.
Dampness affected the run of the balls in the fairway. Tees were in good condition, but the greens were quite soft. Golfers have been regularly fixing gouges as well as filling in divots on the tee boxes and raking sand traps, which keeps the course in playing shape.
With the conditions and damp weather, 17 of the 27 teams scored net at or below par, with two teams scoring gross below par. There were 11 circle hole The next LW Men's Golf Club general meeting is Wednesday, March 4, with annual dues for 2026 payable in the next few months. Meeting attendance is encouraged, along with participation in the conversations. Walt Kim will also be at the men's tournaments to collect dues.
winners and 40 birdies. Average net scores for all teams was 53.4 or just over a half stroke under par—about three tenths worse than the last tournament.
Closest to the pin for the men on the par 3 eighth hole was John Kolthoff, and on the 17th it was Jon Russell; for the women it was Pam Krug and Cece Feltman. Low net score for the round was by Pat Paternoster and Nancy Smith at 8 under 46, followed by Steve and Connie Kang, Scott Tuchfarber and Pam Krug, and Kevin Lindstedt and Alison Kim at 5 under 49.
A flight winners (handicaps
of 0-5): Paternoster and Smith, first place; the Turners, Lyons and Merali, second; Seon and Sang Kim, third.
B flight winners (handicaps of 6-8): Hyon Shin and Sang An, first place; Dave LaCascia and Sue Sloan, James Farr and Sandy Derouin, John Rudosky and Patty Littrell, second.
C flight winners (handicaps of 9-18): The Kangs, Tuchfarber and Krug, Lindstedt and Kim, first place; Jae H. and Sun Lee, second; James and Grace Choi, third.
The next Guys and Gals Tournament will be on Feb. 18 and every third and fifth Wednesday if there is one. The men’s tournament is played every second and fourth Wednesday of each month.
