The Emergency Information Council held its ninth vital document scanning event on Monday, Jan. 19, and eight residents took advantage of the holiday to access the free service.

Residents brought stock and membership certificates, Medical Power of Attorney documents and other important papers to be scanned onto a free thumb drive provided by the council. Driver’s licenses and credit cards were copied and scanned as well. Hundreds of those documents were saved in a convenient form to fit in their go bags. There were plenty of thumb drives left at the end of the event and a repeat of the event is planned in about three months. Also on hand for a donation was a waterproof canister to store the drive and a fireproof bag to keep original documents safe.
