On Sunday, Jan. 11, the congregations of Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate the Baptism of Our Lord Sunday. The Holy Communion service is held at 13564 St. Andrews Drive at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Murray Finck presiding.
Fellowship will follow after service in the Fellowship Hall with coffee, tea, cookies and snacks. 2026 Flower Chart sign ups are still available.
The church continues to collect boxed and canned goods to donate to the Lutheran Social Services in Orange County.
The Bible study is currently on a short break.
The Gospel lesson for this week is Matthew 3:13-17. John the Baptist appears as he witnesses to the light of the Christ as he baptizes Jesus. This is the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry. This is the second instance of the Trinity although more overt when Jesus comes up from the baptism.
When Jesus came out of the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him, “And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.’” This was shouted by the heavens that Jesus was being baptized and his mission was beginning. His hidden days were over. It’s all out in the public.
Like Jesus, Christians are all called to live their lives with Jesus out loud, everyday, in public life.
