Club to celebrate Guatemalan food, culture and customs

The LW American Latino Club will meet on Thursday, Jan. 8, in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. All are invited as the club celebrates the country of Guatemala. Each month, the club celebrates different Spanish-speaking countries through videos showcasing the different customs, cultures, food and people. Fluency in Spanish is not a requirement to join.
Annual membership dues are $10 per person.
The club welcomes nonmembers as guests with a limit of three times per year, after which membership is encouraged.
Every month the club orders food in honor of the country the club is highlighting.
The meal options for January are from Restaurant Chapin 502, Guatemalan and Mexican food. People can choose between pollo guisado (stewed chicken), chile relleno con picadillo (chiles stuffed with minced meat) or carne adobada (pork). All meals include rice, black beans, dessert and beverages. Plantains are optional. The cost for lunch is $22 for members and $25 for guests.
People must submit their payments and meal choices to club Treasurer Rachel Fullum by dropping them off in her mailbox at 1371 Oakmont Road,150-L, Seal Beach, CA 90740. Make sure to allow enough time for delivery if sent by U.S. mail. Payment by check should be made payable to the American Latino Club. People should RSVP by Monday, Jan.
5 at 3 p.m. Members and guests who bring their own lunch must pay $5, which includes beverages. People should notify Fullum even if they are bringing their own lunch by calling 310-869-7730.
