LW Men’s Golf League will play Mondays in 2026

The LW Men’s Golf League plays at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. Advanced league reservations are required with a signup sheet available at each round. Next year there will be no Friday golf league, just Mondays.

There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Rewards are given for low net in each flight, birdies, closest to the pin on two par threes, and for the lowest number of putts in each flight. Holes-in-one and eagles (two under par) are generously rewarded. Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975.

Dense fog and extreme dampness greeted 12 intrepid golfers, including guest Ted Shimizu, on Dec. 12 at the 5,600yard, par 71 Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach. Temperatures were in the low 50s and due to the fog, there was only 75-yard visibility at the 7:30 a.m. tee time. Golfers were calling out “clear” when they were out of range of the group behind or cleared the greens. This lasted for three holes, when the fog finally lifted.

This course is always in decent playing condition. Repairs from damage caused by last month’s storms were nearly completed with just a few muddy areas left. Greens are in always good shape, with nicely trimmed fairways and appropriate length rough. Four of the 12 players shot net at or under par due to the conditions.

There were five birdies— one each by Jim Goltra, Clay Fisher, Gary Stivers, Sam Choi and Dave LaCascia. Closest to the pin on the 140-yard par 3 seventh hole was LaCascia, and Fisher was closest on the 150-yard 16th hole. Fisher and Goltra tied for fewest putts for the A flight, and Ron Jackson had fewest in the B.

Net score equals gross minus handicap.

A flight winners: Kyle Van, 3 under, first place; Fujio Norihiro and Stivers, even par, second; Dave LaCascia, third; Fisher, fourth; Choi, fifth; Goltra, sixth.

B flight winners: Jackson, 1 under, first place; Keiko Sekino, second; Won Park, third; Randy Massaro and Mike Jimenez, fourth.

A very foggy and wet morning greeted 16 golfers at the 4,000-yard par 62 David L. Baker Golf Club on Dec. 15. Weather and wet course conditions persisted throughout the round.

Twelve of the 16 players shot at or below net par, and there were four birdies—two by Jim Goltra, and one each by Sam Choi and Randy Massaro. Closest to the pin on the 100-yard par 3 third hole was Sergio Borbon, and Chris Lankford was closest on the 130-yard 12th hole. Fujio Norihiro had fewest putts for the A flight, and Ron Jackson had fewest in the B.

A flight winners: Lankford, first place; Norihiro, second; Gary Stivers and Larry Hillhouse, third; Goltra, fourth; Dave LaCascia and Sam Choi, fifth; Jae Choi and Clay Fisher, sixth.

B flight winners: Bruno Santillo, first; Bob Munn, second; Borbon, third; Won Park and Massaro, fourth; Dom Bautista, Tom Ross and Jackson, fifth.
