Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by no later than 8:45 to weigh in and complete the registration paperwork.

On Dec. 5, members learned that the club lost a total of 16.5 pounds for the week. Mary Kay Sherman was named the biggest loser with a 3.5-pound loss. Sherman spoke about her weight loss, as only as she can with her dry wit, “I divorced Haagen-Dazs and hope that Jerry and Ben will soon follow it out the door.”

Every year, in December, the club holds a “Funny Money Auction” where every member receives at least $50 of funny money plus more based on how much weight they lost during the year. That money can be used to bid on whatever is available— electronics, clothes, candles, jewelry and more. The highest bidder gets the item. President Judy Chambers acted as an auctioneer to keep things moving. At these meetings, people laugh a lot and come home with a lot of terrific items that they won.

The weekly food for thought was: “The best way to cheer yourself up is to cheer someone else up.”

Wa-Rite members had fun bidding on miscellaneous items with the currency they gained by losing pounds.
