LW Cares Fund hears from former Stockton mayor
Michael Tubbs spoke to the Leisure World Cares Fund on Dec. 9. Tubbs was born in South Stockton and raised by a single mom. His father has been incarcerated his entire life. He rose from poverty to earn a scholarship to Stanford University and became the youngest mayor in America at 26. Since leaving office, Tubbs has led bold efforts to make California more affordable and livable by pioneering the first guaranteed basic income pilot in the country.
The founding of the Leisure World Cares Fund charity was inspired by Tubbs’ pioneering effort. It offers up to a $200 per month subsidy for 12 months to Leisure World residents on fixed incomes who are struggling to pay their HOA assessments. Application is confidential and easy and awards are made in a timely manner.
