First impressions from GRF’s new executive director
EXECUTIVE'S COLUMN
by David Norvell
GRF Executive Director
Since I joined the GRF team a couple of weeks ago, many of you have graciously welcomed me into this incredible community. I am deeply appreciative of the warm greetings, candid conversations, and the willingness you’ve shown to share your hopes and concerns for Leisure World and the Golden Rain Foundation (GRF).
As I continue learning the complexities of daily operations, governance, and the unique needs of more than 9,000 residents, my priority is to understand before acting. I am here to listen, to observe, and to partner with you and our staff so that together we can build the strongest and most sustainable future possible for GRF.
And that brings me to an important reminder about progress and the experience of change in a community like ours: If you do nothing, say nothing, and achieve nothing— no one will ever criticize you. There’s safety in stillness. But there’s also stagnation. Communities like ours cannot thrive by staying still.
Every improvement, every upgrade, every safety enhancement, every policy adjustment is the result of someone taking action. And when an organization moves forward, it naturally draws attention—and sometimes disagreement.
Criticism, in fact, is often a sign that progress is happening.
Here in our community, staff and volunteers work every day to EXECUTIVE

enhance quality of life for residents. Whether it’s maintaining facilities, improving safety, upgrading technology, or strengthening financial stewardship, advancements require decisions—sometimes tough ones.
And strong decisions don’t always make everyone happy. But doing nothing is not an option. Our mission is to protect and grow the value of the place you call home. That means we must be willing to lead boldly—and occasionally hear some noise along the way. Working Together Matters
Our community works best when homeowners and staff recognize that we are on the same team. Staff are committed to:
• Listening with respect
• Acting with transparency
• Delivering high-quality service
• Solving issues efficiently In return, we invite homeowners to:
• Bring concerns forward constructively
• Use official channels for service requests
• Allow staff the opportunity to resolve matters
• Recognize the positive progress happening around us We all want the same thing: a well-run, proud, and vibrant place to live. Progress Worth Defending
As we continue improving facilities, enhancing services, and modernizing operations, you will notice change. Change may be uncomfortable—but it enables growth, sustainability, and a stronger future.
So the next time you hear criticism or feel unsure about a new initiative, remember: Success is earned. Criticism comes with it. Progress demands both. Thank you for your partnership, your engagement, and your commitment to this community. Together, we can build a better future—and that is always worth the noise.
