The Gospel lesson for this week is from Matthew 11:2-11.
These scriptures are a reference to John the Baptist, who expected the Messiah to bring God’s judgement, but Jesus instead brought healing and forgiveness into the world.
Jesus honored John by naming him a prophet. Reminding the people that John was a messenger sent by God. Jesus reminded the crowds that just because the powerful, rich and important people are in palaces, it does not mean they are automatically the people who are going to be in the kingdom of God.
