LW Men’s Golf League

Eighteen golfers of the Leisure World Men’s Golf League competed at the Meadowlark Golf Course on Nov. 24.

Meadowlark has a serious drainage issue when it gets lots of rain like the week before. This caused the golf club to declare “Cart Path Only,” meaning no driving carts on the fairways. This increased the amount of time it took to play a round.

Greens and tee boxes were in excellent condition, but many fairway areas were flooded.

Only four of the 18 golfers were at or below net par. There were four birdies—two by Sam Choi, and one each by Clay Fisher and Steve Earl. Closest to the pin on the 150-yard par 3 seventh hole was Fisher, and Jae Choi was closest to the pin on the 150-yard 16th hole. Gary Stivers and Jae Choi tied for fewest putts for the A flight, and Gene Vesely had fewest in the B.

A flight winners: Jae Choi, first place; Earl, second; Stivers, third; Fisher, fourth; Kyle Van, fifth; Dave LaCascia, Chris Lankford and Sam Choi, sixth; Larry Hillhouse, Fujio Norihiro and Jim Goltra, seventh.

B flight winners: Won Park. first; Bruno Santillo, second; Mike Jimenez, third; Dom Bautista, fourth; Scott Slade, fifth; Tom Ross and Vesely, sixth.

Seventeen players competed at the River View Golf Course on Dec. 1. The fairways were damp and the grass on them was flat or cut very short leaving, little to hit from. This led to some very low scores with eight of the players shooting net at or under par.

There were three birdies— one each by Sam Choi, Gary Stivers and Randy Massaro. Closest to the pin on the 150-yard par 3 second hole was Won Park, and Sam Choi was closest on the 100yard ninth hole. Stivers, Dave LaCascia, Sam Choi and Fujio Norihiro tied for fewest putts for the A flight, and Park and Dom Bautista tied for fewest in the B.

A flight winners: Norihiro, 6 under, first place; Sam Choi, 3 under, second; Kyle Van, 2 under, third; Jim Goltra and Stivers, even par, fourth; Chris Lankford, fifth; LaCascia, Clay Fisher and Jae Choi, sixth.

B flight winners: Bautista, 8 under, first place; Park, 4 under, second; Massaro, 3 under, third; Tom Ross, fourth; Sergio Borbon, fifth; Mike Jimenez, Bruno Santillo and Gene Vesely, sixth.

Advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round. Next year there will be no Friday golf league.
