LW Baptist
LW Baptist Church will celebrate the conception and birth of Jesus Christ on Sunday, Dec. 14, in Clubhouse 4 at 10 a.m.
Mary was amazed to hear Gabriel’s message from God: “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” That is the mystery of God becoming man to bring the fallen human race salvation.
Jesus’ whole earthly life, as theologian Dr. John C. Whitcomb explained, is but one episode in the eternal career of God the Son. The portal through which Christ entered the world was the womb of the virgin Mary. His reign would be earthly, yet eternal. He would have human traits, yet divine. All this was possible only by the power of Holy Spirit, as he had empowered kings and prophets, men and women of old, fulfilling Isaiah’s prophecy, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him ‘Immanuel.’” Jesus spoke of this before coming into the world when he said, “A body you have prepared for me,” meaning he was completely human in every way, but without sin, and able to save those who put their trust in him.
