First Christian Church

First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together, “That we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine” Romans 1:12.

Pastor’s Message

“Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved.”This verse from Romans 10:1 was the apostle Paul speaking to his fellow Jew in Rome that his heart’s desire and prayer was that they be saved. These are not just idle words, but the words of a prayer warrior, praying for the brethren that he loved.

The apostle had just written earlier that salvation, and the righteousness of God came through faith in the crucified Christ which was a stumbling block for the majority of the Jews, who rejected the righteousness of God found in Christ. The apostle Paul continues to explain in Romans 10:2-4 when he writes, “I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For not knowing of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.”

Paul’s countrymen had a great zeal for God, but in ignorance, pursued the establishment of their own righteousness outside of the crucified Christ. Paul had touched on this earlier in Romans 3:20 when he explained to those in Rome that “by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” The law brought them to the knowledge of their sins, but the righteousness of God comes from faith in the crucified, risen savior.
