Tournament Poker Club to play Dec. 6 in CH 6

Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in should make plans to join the Tournament Poker Club for the last regular tournament of 2025 on Saturday, Dec. 6. Regular tournaments are held the first three Saturdays of every month in the lobby of Clubhouse 6 with registration beginning at 10 a.m., along with treats and coffee. Cards are in the air at 10:30.

Despite the wet weather, the club had a good turnout for the Nov. 15 game. Each week, big hands bring special prizes. This week, the high hand winners were: Maryanne Conte (5-9 diamond straight flush), Marvin Rolnick (3-3-3-3-Q) and Shelly Yu (A-A-A-10-10). By playing and winning the promo hand of 5-10, Nancy Floyd won a prize.

As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Ray Lim, first place; Terry Watson, second; Dennis Kotecki, third; Eileen Kotecki, fourth; Roger Montero, fifth; Marvin Rolnick, sixth; Young Cho, seventh; Shelly Yu, eighth.

About 64 players started the game and play continued until the final table where Lim and Watson were head’s up. In the last hand of the match, the flop came 10-4-9. Watson, holding A-10, now had a pair and went all in. Lim holding K-J of clubs called. The turn was a J giving Lim a higher pair. The river card was a 6, which didn’t change anything and Lim got the win with a pair of jacks.

This was the first time that anyone can remember when a husband and wife made it to the final table. The club congratulates Dennis and Eileen—but especially Eileen, who has been playing in club tournaments for two weeks.

Lim has lived in Leisure World and been a member of the poker club for one year. He has made it to the final table six times, and this was his second win at a regular tournament. Additionally, Lim is a member of the Mahjong Club and is a regular at the gym.

The club has always had a no late seating policy. This has become even more important as seating capacity has been reached. Those who arrive late may not be able to play.
