Christopher Abel, former Mutual 2 Director and Aquatic Center attendant, passed away Sept. 13,2025. He was born Sept. 28, 1948, to Dr. and Mrs. John Abel, and was raised in Brentwood, California, yet spent much of his adult life living in Long Beach. He spent several years living on Catalina Island where he was editor/publisher of The Catalina Islander, the island newspaper.

Chris served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam in the late 1960s/early 1970s. He married shortly after returning statewide. He leaves his wife, Kay; his son Cameron, his daughter Brianna, and four grandchildren.

Chris moved to Leisure World in 2017, where he enjoyed gardening and working out at the gym.

One of Christopher’s greatest contributions to Mutual 2 and Leisure World was creating Sago Park, a beautiful desert landscape between buildings 15 and 16, which saves over 10,000 gallons of water yearly.

A Celebration of Life was held in Chris’ honor on Nov. 15. He will be missed greatly by his family and his friends.
