Tournament Poker Club to play Nov. 15 in CH 6

Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in should make plans to play with the Tournament Poker Club on Saturday, Nov. 15. Regular tournaments are held on the first three Saturdays of every month in Clubhouse 6 and start at 10 a.m., with coffee/treats and registration. Cards are in the air at 10:30.

The club has always had a no late seating policy for tournament play. This has become even more important in the last few weeks, as the club is now at seating capacity. Attendees should plan accordingly.

On Nov. 1 the club had a great turnout for the first game of November. Every week there are special prizes for the highest hands. The week’s high hand winners were Renate Watkins (A-A-A-K-K), Katie Hamilton (A-A-A-6-6), and Helen Becker and Young Cho (10-10-10-J-J). Bob Konier won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 9-3.

As the winners of their original table, the final table players were Jeff Rolnick, first place; Ray Lim, second; Nancy Jordan, third; Jack Pfeifer, fourth; Kurt Bourhenne, fifth; Mike Gass, sixth; Brent Covington, seventh; Namil Shin, eighth; and Danna Sanders, ninth.

Play continued at the final table until Rolnick and Lim were head’s up. The final hand of the match held everyone’s attention as each street brought a surprise. Rolnick was holding K-J and Lim had A 4. The flop came Q-K-4 and with a pair of 4s, Lim went all in. Rolnick was quick to call with a pair of kings. The turn (2) was no help to either player, but the river (10) gave Rolnick his second consecutive tournament win with a pair of kings.

Rolnick has lived in Leisure World and been a member of the poker club for six years. This was his third final table win at a regular tournament. In addition to tournament poker, Rolnick plays pickleball and also likes hiking and the beach.
