Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em should make plans play with the Tournament Poker Club on Saturday, Nov. 8. Regular tournaments are held on the first three Saturdays of every month in the lobby of Clubhouse 6, with registration beginning at 10 a.m., along with treats and coffee. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.

On Oct. 25, the club had a special tournament just for the dealers. The prizes were provided by the club. The dealers are knowledgeable, fair and can handle just about anything at the poker table. Beginning players, sassy players and players with disabilities are all treated with patience and respect from these volunteers, and the club honors them twice each year with their own tournament.

The players in order of finish were: Debbie Barner, first place; Barry Brideau, second; Namil Shin, third; Kurt Bourhenne, fourth; Wendy Wu, fifth; Harry Sera, sixth; Donna Hernandez, seventh; Jon Jones, eighth; Steve Edrich, ninth; Cheryl Enge, tenth; Tony Canfora, eleventh; Marvin Rolnick, twelfth; and Guta Basner, thirteenth.

Barner has lived in Leisure World and been a member of the club for four years. This was her sixth final table win. In addition to tournament poker, Barner plays poker in several groups during the week. She also gives lessons to beginners. She is a member of the Creative Writer’s Club, and stays busy with gardening and craft projects.

The club thanks all of the dealers who played in this special tournament. The club appreciates the dealers’ willingness to help on a regular basis, not just with dealing but setting up the tournaments and making sure that all of the equipment is accounted for and put away at the end of the game. Members are encouraged to take a minute and thank the dealers for their efforts to make the club so much fun.
