Nine golfers of the Leisure World Men’s Golf League competed at the 5,600-yard par 71 Meadowlark Golf Course on Oct. 17. The weather was pleasant even though the course was wet. Fairways and most tee boxes were in fair condition, and the greens remained in their typical great shape.

The delightful weather and decent playing conditions led to seven of the nine golfers shooting net at or under par with several very good scores. There were five birdies—two by Jim Goltra, and one each by Sam Choi, Jae Choi and Bruno Santillo. Jae Choi was closest to the pin on the 140-yard—all over water—par 3 seventh hole, and Sam Choi was closest to the pin on the 150-yard—into the ever present wind—par 3 16th. Fujio Norihiro had fewest putts for the A flight, and Won Park had fewest in the B.

Net score equals gross minus handicap.

A flight winners: Jae Choi, 3 under 68, first place; Sam Choi and Clay Fischer, even par, second; Gary Stivers and Norihiro, third.

B flight winners: Santillo, 7 under 64, first place; Park, 4 under 67, second; Bob Munn, 3 under 68, third.

Fourteen golfers played at the 4,000-yard par 62 David L. Baker Golf Course on Oct. 20. It was very foggy at the 7 a.m. tee time with some difficulty seeing the length of the longer par 4s. The sun burned off the haze mid-round, and it warmed up nicely. The course was wet, and some fairways and many tee boxes still needed work. The greens seemed to be uncut and were unusually bumpy.

This did not stop the players from scoring well with 13 of the 14 golfers shooting net at or below par. There were four birdies—one each by Jim Goltra, Bruno Santillo, Steve Earl and Chris Lankford. Larry Hillhouse was closest to the pin on the 100-yard par 3 third hole, and Goltra was closest on the 110-yard par 3 15th. Gary Stivers had fewest putts in A flight, Won Park and Santillo tied for fewest for the B.

A flight winners: Earl, 6 under, first place; Goltra and Lankford, 3 under, second; Clay Fisher and Stivers, 2 under, third; Hillhouse and Jae Choi, 1 under, fourth; Fujio Norihiro, even par, fifth; Sam Choi, sixth.

B flight winners: Won Park, 12 under, first place; Bob Munn, 11 under, second; Bruno Santillo, 10 under, third; Dom Bautista, 4 under, fourth; Sergio Bourbon, fifth.
