Copper enameling classes will be held every Wednesday for six weeks
LAPIDARY AND JEWELRY CLUB
The Lapidary & Jewelry Club is offering a new class in copper enameling beginning Nov. 5.
Enameling is the process of adding finely ground colored glass to pieces of copper, which are then fired in a kiln to make colorful and lasting pieces of wearable or displayable art. Students will learn the proper preparation of the metal and will use various application techniques including layering, stenciling, sgraffito, wet packing and more.
Students will also learn how to use tools and to safely use the kiln to fire the pieces to make them permanent. Students from past classes have surprised themselves at the attractive and wearable pieces they end up with.
The class is taught by LaVerne Christenson, who has more than 20 years of experience in the process. Classes will be held every Wednesday for six weeks starting Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 1-3 p.m.
The cost is $25, which covers all the needed supplies including copper and enamels. Tools will be provided. Sign-up sheets are available in the Lapidary Studio located in Clubhouse 4. Classes are limited to four people.
