Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in should make plans to join the Tournament Poker Club on Saturday, Nov. 1. Regular tournaments are held on the first three Saturdays of every month in the lobby of Clubhouse 6 with registration beginning at 10 a.m., along with treats and coffee. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.

On Oct. 11 the club had a great turnout for the week’s game. Each week, big hands bring special prizes. This week, the high hand winners were: Debbie Barner (J-J-J-Q), Edwin Lucero (9-9-9-9-4 and 6-6-6-6-4). By playing and winning the promo hand of 4-9, Kathy Elliott won a prize.

As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Ray Lim, first place; Kathy Seagroves, second; Jon Jones, third; Roy Mittlestadt, fourth; Martha Destra, fifth; Edwin Lucero, sixth; Marvin Rolnick, seventh; Lonnie Ton, eighth; and Namil Shin, ninth.

With 63 players starting the game, play continued until the final table where Seagroves and Lim were heads up. In the last hand of the match, Seagroves had 9-8, and Lim holding A-9 of diamonds, went all in before the flop and was called by Seagroves. The flop came 4-7-K, which was no help to either player. The turn was a 6, giving Seagroves a straight draw, but the river was another K, giving both players a pair of kings, but Lim got the win with his ace kicker.

Lim has lived in Leisure World and been a member of the poker club for one year. He has made it to the final table five times, and this was his first win at a regular tournament. In addition to Tournament Poker, Lim is a member of the Mahjong Club and is a regular at the gym.
