Sunshine Club will host LW Cares Foundation Oct. 24
Leisure World Cares Fund Board President Nick Massetti will speak at the Sunshine Club about the rollout of the new charity on Friday, Oct. 24, in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, at 10 a.m.
Massetti led the establishment of the LW Cares Fund as a California nonprofit public benefit corporation, and 501(c) (3) charity, this past summer. The fund aims to provide housing financial assistance to residents within Leisure World Seal Beach, primarily through small subsidies to HOA assessments for residents who are on fixed incomes and face the potential loss of their homes. The goal is to provide housing security and peace of mind to the most vulnerable while preserving their dignity.
The fund relies on donations from more financially secure residents who feel called to help support their neighbors. Massetti will provide an update on the community’s response in terms of donations as well as applications for assistance.
Massetti is a 10-year resident of Mutual 17 and has served in varied roles within the community, including on the Mutual 17 and GRF boards, community service clubs and as a city planning commissioner. Although he began proposing the idea of the fund more than five years ago, the significant increases in the community’s housing cost in the last two years made it urgent to pursue the idea.
Early this month, Elizabeth Hacke said goodbye to Sunshine Club members after almost 14 years of attending Friday morning meetings to enjoy coffee and learn from the speakers. She once served as secretary of the club.
Hacke moved to Leisure World in 2011, living in Mutual 1. She enjoyed what the community had to offer, and quickly got involved many activities, including the they are Geneal-ogy and Sunshine Clubs.
She has been with the club since the early days, when the meetings were devoted to reading the LW Weekly and talk about the articles to help find answers if anyone had questions. She is moving to Rancho Santa Margarita to be closer to family. The Sunshine Club wishes Hack the best.
