Redeemer Lutheran and St. Theodore

On Sunday, Oct. 26, the congregations of Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate Reformation Sunday. Rev. Murray D. Finck will preside over the holy communion service at 10:30 a.m. at 13564 St. Andrews Drive.

Fellowship will be held after the service in the downstairs Fellowship Hall with coffee, tea, cookies and snacks. October birthdays will be celebrated at the fellowship this week.

The first part of the annual congregational meeting will be held on Sunday, Nov. 9, immediately following the service.

The midweek Bible study held on Wednesdays is currently studying women of the Bible. The study continues in the Fellowship Hall from noon-1:15 p.m. on Oct. 29. All are welcome. A study guide will be distributed. Rev. Finck will lead the discussion. People are welcome to join the study and bring a lunch. There will be drinks available and usually a small dessert.

The gospel lesson for this week is from John 8:31-36. Jesus speaks of freedom in the gospel. Jesus is not talking about freedom for people to do what they want when they want. He is speaking of freedom from sin.

By nature, the world is full of sinful people who have fallen from grace. All people sin. What Jesus gave the world through his death and resurrection was the freedom from the immediate punishment of sin.

Believers are called by baptism to a new life in Christ and into forgiveness and mercy. It is a gift without price because Jesus has already paid the price.
